Meet the Engineers: Glen Hallit

If you’ve ever wondered what keeps Lumetrics running like a well-oiled machine, it's Glen Hallit. As Manufacturing Manager, Glen takes on many roles—production planning, supply chain management, testing, shipping, and even a bit of technical sales support. With nearly two decades at Lumetrics, Glen has become a cornerstone of the company’s operations, known for his deep institutional knowledge and calm, problem-solving mindset.

“Every day is completely different,” Glen shares. “I usually come in with a plan, but I’m always ready to pivot and help wherever I’m needed.”

Q&A with Glen Hallit

What does your day-to-day look like at Lumetrics?

I am primarily responsible for production planning, supply chain management, manufacturing, testing, and shipping all of our products and accessories to customers across the world. That includes a long list of responsibilities.

Since we're a small company, we all wear many hats. My hats range from purchasing and supplier qualification all the way through shipping and sometimes post-sale support. My role over almost 18 years has evolved to include a litany of other departmental oversights, including checking engineering, building materials, and sales support.

I like my job. I still enjoy getting up in the morning to come to work. Every day is a new possibility of challenges and problems. I love solving seemingly impossible problems. And that's where I think my strengths come into play. I see the bigger picture of everything, and I try to work within those confines and constraints to come up with a solution that's mutually beneficial for everyone involved, whether it's a customer or even just internal department resource management. It keeps you thinking, keeps you on your toes.

What measurement innovations at Lumetrics are most promising to you?

The government contract in commercializing technology to measure transparent armor is the most interesting challenge we are working on, which has a lot of carry-over into commercial measurement challenges. These complicated, robust, high-value, highly complicated instruments for the government or for other customers are exciting to me.

We are fine-tuning existing platforms like the OptiGauge II to make them user-friendly in a production environment. But from an innovation point of view, we're looking at different wavelengths of light and metrology methods to help people solve their problems in either the factory floor or R&D, or elsewhere. It's trying to push the limits of what we can do to meet the needs of new users, and new challenges.

What’s next for Lumetrics?

Doing metrology on more materials that we can't do now. Our primary wavelengths of light that we use are fixed. We're always looking for opportunities to characterize materials using an expanded range of wavelengths or techniques.

As far as technologies are concerned, I think we want to be able to measure more and more and more. We want to break into industries that we have to convince that we have a useful product for them by showing them what we can do and how we can save manufacturers money and time.

And what’s next for you?

My goal is to make sure that the quality, the policies, and procedures we use to do good work remain consistently high, and as we hire new people and expand that, those people get taught those basic tenets of good manufacturing and just good business sense.

We're a small company, so we are more nimble. But just because it's simpler doesn't mean that we're skimping on quality or the perfection of the build of a machine. I want to be able to continue doing that. I'd love to stay here until I retire.

What do you wish more people knew about Lumetrics?

We strive for perfection. We strive to be customer-oriented. We want to give customers the measurement solutions and answers they need. And when we come up short on available answers, we take it with serious intent, because we want to be an expert provider of quality instrumentation, customer responsiveness and satisfaction.
