Precise, Accurate Windshield Wedge Measurements for Optimal Heads-Up-Display Applications

Head-up display technologies (HUD) are increasingly embedded in today’s automotive windshields to help drivers focus on the road ahead rather than the instrumentation in the dashboard.

Image quality is critical to the adoption of HUD technology, which can only be achieved through the proper wedge angle of the windshield. Existing metrology tools do not currently match the inspection needs for precise, repeatable high-volume production.

In this paper, Lumetrics demonstrates the proof-of-principle of wedge-angle measurement using Shack-Hartmann wavefront sensor. This approach can be used by the windshield manufacturers to:
